Fantastic! #Inspiring Futures Event
A career information event to inspire young people to make a career in the Health, Emergency and Social Care has been hailed as a massive success.
The event was aimed at students entering S4 and organised by NHS Dumfries and Galloway’s Workforce Sustainability Team.
It was a collaborative event with professionals from the NHS, Council, Independent Partners, Primary Care and Third Sector, working together to showcase what it is like to work in some roles across different settings.
Students were able to engage with professionals and the relevant educator for that role as well as explore interactive activities from virtual reality to clinical dummies.
Vic McDade is Workforce Sustainability Manager for NHS Dumfries and Galloway, and she said: “We have been overwhelmed with the response and a huge thank you goes out to everyone who came together to make the event such a glowing success.
Active and Sustainable Travel for All
Every effort is being made to make it easier and more accessible for staff to walk and cycle to and from work.
Our most recent cohort of international nurses were given an insight into the range bikes for loan and cycle skill sessions available.
Active Travel Officers Rhian Davies and Ian Gray were on hand to showcase Active Travel to the nurses who have been working in DGRI’s Emergency Department, the Short Stay Unit and Wards C4 and D9.
Rhian said: “Travelling actively to work can be a great way to tick off the recommended 30 minutes of daily activity whilst also getting you to where you need to be – a great way to fit in exercise to our busy schedules!
“We currently deliver and support the use of 12 pool ebikes across the region and six ebikes are available to Health and Social Care staff to trial for their commute.

This has been thanks to the collaborative working and dedication of Clinicians, Administration Staff, Health Care Support workers and Patient Focus Booking Teams.
Sheena said: “This is an amazing effort by the whole team and together, we have all achieved no waiting list for type 1 diabetes clinics in such a short timeframe.
“It has been a great working relationship between everyone involved and our hard work has certainly paid off.”
