Football supporters’ boost for NHS

A sum of over £1,000 has been donated by Queen of the South Football Club supporters to back the work of the local NHS.

Mark Blount is a director of the Dumfries club, and he said: “Two of our most fervent supporters, Ross and Greig Corbett (shown in the photograph below), carried out virtual half time draws on the dates of the last two home fixtures to raise much needed funds for the club.”

A draw on April 12 saw the prize fund of £3300 split between the football club and the winning entrant.

Speaking ahead of the April 26 draw, however, Mr Blount said: “This time we thought it would be best to split it three ways and include a donation to the NHS.”

As a result, over £1000 is now being donated to help support the work of NHS Dumfries and Galloway.

Welcoming the generous donation, NHS Dumfries and Galloway Chief Executive Jeff Ace said; “The coronavirus is impacting on so many aspects of our lives at present, including sport.

“It’s fantastic, then, that Queen of the South supporters have been so generous as to split this sum – supporting the football club and also supporting the ongoing work of NHS Dumfries and Galloway at this time. That generosity is very much appreciated.”
