Do you care about the future of your GP services? We want to hear from you!
Workshops in August and September will explore how general practice is working in our region – and how it can be developed for the future. These sessions are your chance to share what matters most to you and your community.

General Medical Services in Dumfries and Galloway have reached a critical moment. Challenges such as GP recruitment and retention, increased workload, and changing patient needs have made it essential to reassess how General Medical Services are planned and delivered. Our goal is to ensure these services are sustainable, fit for the future, and capable of addressing population health needs and inequalities.

The General Medical Services Review was launched in December 2024. It began with a five-month programme of engagement, reaching out to GPs and practice teams, other stakeholders such as community health teams and policymakers, and the wider public.

Click here to read the original paper setting out the background to the review, presented to the Integration Joint Board of Dumfries and Galloway Health and Social Care Partnership in December 2024.

And click here to read the update on the Review which the Board received at its meeting in June 2025, including the results of the first phase of engagement.

These workshops will bring together general practitioners, practice teams, wider stakeholders, community representatives and lived experience voices. Anyone interested in attending should email dg.shapingthefutureofgms@nhs.scot to register – times and locations will be provided on registration.

Please note that, to take part in a workshop, you will need to be present for the entire workshop – these are not drop-in sessions.
