SIGNIFICANT strides towards greater workplace fairness are being taken by NHS Dumfries and Galloway, with the unveiling of two new reports.
The 2025 Equality and Diversity Mainstreaming and Equality Outcomes Report andthe Equal Pay Statement presented to Board members today demonstrate how the Board is working to ensure fair pay, equal opportunities, and inclusive practices, benefiting employees, patients, and the wider community.
Workforce Director Pamela Jamieson said: “As an organisation, we are committed to combating discrimination and fostering a culture where all employees and patients are treated equitably.”
NHS Dumfries and Galloway has an obligation to report annually under the Equality Act 2010 (Specific Duties) (Scotland) Regulations 2012.
However, Mrs Jamieson said: “This is about much more than just meeting legal requirements; it’s about ensuring fairness and equality of opportunity for everyone who works with and relies on the NHS.
“Equal pay and opportunity in the workplace don’t just benefit our staff — they create a stronger, more committed workforce, which in turn leads to better care for our patients and benefits our communities.”
Why This Matters to Everyone
Fairness in the workplace is a top priority. The Equal Pay Statement 2025 highlights ongoing efforts to eliminate the gender pay gap and reduce occupational segregation.
By ensuring pay equity and career advancement opportunities, NHS Dumfries and Galloway is working to create a workplace where everyone can thrive, regardless of gender or background.
Inclusion and diversity also directly impact patient care. A workplace where everyone feels valued and included leads to better communication, improved trust, and more effective healthcare outcomes for all.
A workforce that reflects the community it serves means that diverse voices and experiences shape healthcare policies and practices, making care more patient-centred and responsive to varying needs.
Benefiting the Community
The NHS plays a critical role in setting an example for other organisations. By embedding equality into daily operations and decision-making, the NHS promotes a culture of fairness across the region.
Initiatives such as public engagement events, policy assessments, and workforce training help drive positive social change beyond the walls of hospitals and clinics.

Looking Ahead

“By setting an example, the NHS hopes to inspire broader societal change, proving that equity benefits everyone.”
