Spiritual Care Service

Caring for the Whole Person—Mind, Body, and Spirit

Life’s challenges can take a toll on more than just our physical health. The NHS Dumfries & Galloway Spiritual Care Service is here to provide compassionate support for patients, carers, loved ones, and staff. Whether you follow a particular faith, have your own personal beliefs, or none at all, our service is designed to help you find peace, meaning, and comfort during difficult times.

What We Offer

  • Emotional Support: Our team is here to listen without judgment, offering a safe space to share your thoughts and feelings.

  • Practical Assistance: We can liaise with staff, carers, or loved ones on your behalf and connect you with additional resources.

  • Faith-Based Support: If desired, we can arrange for prayer, communion, or visits from a minister, pastor, priest, or faith representative.

  • Quiet Spaces: Access sanctuaries and quiet rooms across our facilities for moments of reflection, meditation, or solitude.

Our service is led by a dedicated Spiritual Care Lead and supported by trained volunteers, ensuring that everyone—regardless of their beliefs—feels valued and supported.

How to Access Spiritual Care

You can request spiritual care by speaking to a member of staff or contacting the DGRI Switchboard at 01387 246246. Our Spiritual Care Lead is available Monday to Friday, 9 am to 5 pm. Please note that there is no on-call service.

Our Commitment

  • Inclusive and Non-Judgmental: We welcome everyone, regardless of faith, beliefs, or philosophy.

  • Experienced Team: Our Spiritual Care Lead and volunteers are trained to provide compassionate and confidential support.

  • Holistic Approach: We focus on the emotional and spiritual wellbeing of patients, carers, and staff alike.
